In collaboration with 2o9ine Films and the Alliance Française Lagos, we look forward to screening FOR MARIA: EBUN PATAKI as our closing film of the year. Directed by Damilola Orimogunje, the award-winning drama spotlights society’s misunderstanding of postpartum depression and its impact on mothers.
Join us this Friday, December 10 by 5pm prompt at the Alliance Française Lagos/Mike Adenuga Centre for a memorable and moving big-screen experience. There will be a post-screening conversation with the filmmaker, who will be in attendance alongside members of the film’s cast and crew.
Entry is free. Doors open at 4.30pmRSVP recommended. No face mask, no entry.

ABOUT THE FILM
After the complicated birth of her first child Maria, Derin becomes withdrawn from family life, unable to engage in the celebrations around her newborn. Her bewildered mother-in-law insists that she is not a good-enough parent, while her increasingly worried husband Afolabi watches from the sidelines as she becomes a shadow of herself. Struggling to come to terms with what it means to be a mother, Derin fails to bond with her baby and ultimately loses the most precious gift of all.
