Mic check 1..and we’re back! After a break from regular programming, Screen Out Loud returns with an unmissable animated sci-fi classic: TIME MASTERS (Les Maîtres du temps). The film is based on Stefan Wul’s science fiction novel, L’Orphelin de Perdide (1958).
Directed by iconic animator René Laloux (Fantastic Planet, 1973) with artistic design by the legendary Moebius, each element of the film reflects the duo’s storytelling genius. This emotional time-travelling trip follows Piel, a little orphan boy trying to get to safety. But space is not without its perils, and amidst the looming danger, there is more at stake and even more to Piel’s story than meets the eye.
TIME MASTERS’ sub-themes and metaphors are as relevant today as they were in 1982. If you love cinema, time travel, space adventure, science fiction, animation, you don’t want to miss seeing TIME MASTERS on the big screen. Tell a friend to bring a friend!
(This version was restored in 4K in 2023.)
ABOUT THE FILM
On the planet Perdide, in the depths of space, little Piel is pursued by a swarm of hornets who killed his father. Piel finds himself alone but Jaffar, aboard his spaceship, rushes to save him. From the ship, he will guide little Piel with the help of two extra-terrestrial clowns, Jad and Yula. He will confront the masters of time. An amazing time paradox, of an old space runner who, madly, tries to save the little boy he once was.
