June 25: Four Short Films by Kagho Idhebor

Join us on Sunday, June 25 for a special experience featuring four short films by acclaimed cinematographer Kagho Idhebor.
In partnership with BCBlunt Films and Alliance Française Lagos, Screen Out Loud will present BURKINA BABES, DARK ROOM, THE BROKEN MASK, and MY FATHER’S BOOK.
The award-winning short films address diverse themes and have been well-received at local and international film festivals. Each with its own unique narrative but similarly vivid cinematography, the short films are a window into the past, the shadows and elsewhere.
We are looking forward to the post-screening conversation with the filmmaker!

ABOUT THE FILMS:
BROKEN MASK (Fiction, 18′)
A dedicated mask crafter shattered by the sexual molestation meted on his 6-year-old daughter fights hard to balance his work and stitch up his broken family. This takes a toll on him, traumatizing him psychologically. As he struggles to find a balance, his pain awakens cosmic forces. Like his broken mask, will his broken life be mysteriously fixed? DARK ROOM (Fiction, 26′)
A woman on the run for murder stumbles on a middle-aged photographer who is contemplating suicide. They spend what seems to be the longest twelve hours of their lives locked up in a photography studio until the inevitable happens. View Trailer

BURKINA BABES (Documentary, 7′)
A filmmaker visits Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. He is not only inspired by the aesthetics of motorbikes and bicycles that give the city a unique cultural beauty, he also discovers through his lens that there is something appealing maybe even special about the independent spirit of the women of Burkina Faso. MY FATHER’S BOOK (Documentary, 30′)
The era was the 1970s in Nigeria , and the music and art scenes were gripped in the throes of a renaissance. There was an explosion of ideas, music, fashion and culture and it grew steadily and unnoticed right under the noses of the key players. Innovation was rife and history was being made but shortly after the decade ended, the party was over and people were left with vague memories of a glorious past. Hung over, they faced a new reality. Only one man was aware of what was going on, and this man wrote a book immortalising the heroes of that era. View Trailer
